Check the BIOS for a setting like "PnP OS" and see if setting it to Yes/True makes any difference. You might also try entering "-c" at the boot prompt and then "disable pcibios" and see if that makes any difference. You could also change to a serial console from the boot loader which would allow you to easily capture all the kernel messages. - todd
