Wow, I go to work and a flurry of responses!

Yes, my TZ877 has a stepper motor and gear mechanism that manipulates the axis 
of the "flap door" on command.

I agree that there may be tiny differences in faceplate design to aid in tape 
loading, but it's hard to know without one side by side.  Hopefully I'll be 
getting a DLT4K and will try this out in the TZ877.
