what a great topic for rescue.. a real hardware (topic albeit off topic..

'cause theres lots of cool ATM hardware around right now..  obviously, its
for the hardcore hardware junkie..
if ethernet is 1 (easiest) token ring 2 FDDI 3  ATM is .. what.. 10.. PVCs
and the like..  plus fiber is never really CHEAP.. and its alwasy SC  never
the stupid cheaper ST


other cons.. configuration SW is almost always orphaned, unobtanium, seldom
GUI and CLI harder than chinese

pros.. $100,000 gear for $20-$200 .. 3Com CoreBuilder 7000.. Nortel stuff..
*Synoptics!*.. Fore/now Marconi (on the verge of bankruptcy)

And even though were talking OC3, there is also 655 out there and the
*always loved* IBM 25MBs 'desktop' ATM microchannel NICs and switches !!!
