It is presumably for feeding to additional video gear that can take advantage
of RGBA (perhaps a hardware compositing device), but I don't know the exact 
specs of the output.  This probably isn't too helpful.

I wonder if my advisor still has the docs that came with his onyx, and if they
would specify what the specs are.
