Subject: [rescue] Another possibly unanswerable question about AXI
memory

Hi all,

I have an interesting issue with some memory in my AXi machine, thought
maybe someone could shed some light on it.

I have two pieces of HB56SW3272ESK-5 "256MB Buffered EDO DRAM DIMM
32-Mword 72-bit, 4k Refresh, 2 Bank Module" dimms here. In a Micronics
W6Li board, they show up as 256MB sticks, but in my Ultra AXi board they
show up as 128MB sticks. I checked the bank layout and my configuration
matched the AXi manual's admonitions...

	SPARCengine(tm)Ultra(tm) AXi (UltraSPARC-IIi 360MHz)
	socket U0404 has a 256MB DIMM
	socket U0403 has a 256MB DIMM
	socket U0304 has a 128MB DIMM
	socket U0303 has a 128MB DIMM
	empty sockets: U0402 U0401 U0302 U0301
	total memory = 768MB

I'm wondering if I managed to end up with 10-bit column address 256MB
dimms here--somehow I thought they were all 11-bit at this size. The
datasheet I found at the url below suggests they're actually 12-bit
(A0-A11).

They were inexpensive enough that they're still cheaper than most of my
sources for 128MB sticks, but if there's a trick or a specification I'm
missing, I'd welcome the enlightment.

And if anyone would like a pointer to my source just drop me a note (I
don't want to publish their email on a web-searchable forum, but I'll pass
it along in private email).

Thanks,
Rob
