Ah, I see.  Well my guess is they're rendering the image before updating
the color map -- I suspect even on a 24bpp display they still mess
around with colour map allocations since I think they're still using a
colour cube to do the images....

It's really not mozilla per se, but rather the GTK+/GDK stuff....
