Bill,

Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you. Things have been incredibly
crazy here, and I only have internet access at the office (there isn't even
a phone line at the house).

Anyway thanks for the good wishes. I'm having a great time. Since I've been
here, I think I've had more fun than any other time in my life. The only bad
part is that my wife isn't here yet, but that'll change soon enough as well.

Must have been a big difference for you going from a vehicle the size of a
grand marquis (I owned one once as well, an Ex Fire Chiefs wagon in fact) to
say a Nissan Micra ;-) Although I must say, they do generally have better
cars here than we get in the states. I'm absolutely drooling over the Alfa
156, and I think I'm going to buy one next month or so.

As to language, I'm so lucky I didn't get saddled with a Boston accent.
Growing up in Milton most of my friends have this horrid southie/dorchester
sound that makes me cringe just a bit when I hear it. I'm also lucky because
I grew up with an Irish family, so I got used to the accent fairly early. I
still have to ask people to repeat themselves a lot, especially people from
the far south of Ireland. What they speak is only passingly related to
English ;-)

Cheers

Chris

Chris,

I hope things go easier for you as you begin living in Ireland.
Just over a year ago I began the process of relocating which
involved selling a home, moving stuff into storage, moving
stuff out of storage, parting with my "wheels" (Grand Marquis),
and learning how to "think" European... or rather "Dutch".
It took several trips back and forth but I am through the
worst part I think. I just enjoyed a great afternoon on the
beach today feel energized for the next couple cooler, rainy
days.

Here is the Netherlands I am getting ADSL service connected
this Friday. I am fortunate that Holland is very good about keeping
up with the technologies and in several cases establishing
it's own mark in the field.

The only accent problem is my "Boston" accent.. but most
are amused by it. Also, most Dutch people speak better
english than Americans. I think it is my reponsibility to learn
Nederlands though which is slowly evolving.

Have fun!

Bill
