Yes, but would piecing them back together make them readable? Don't
forget, it's not just a shock, but heat and shredding bits of metal
warping and scratching the platters.

Not that I've any empirical evidence, mind you. Though I used to know
someone who'd probably try it to tell you what would happen. Maybe I can
find him...
