I think you're refering to the PT Cruiser.  It is by no means an SUV -
though the govt does classify them as trucks for insurance and emmisions
purposes (not understanding that).

The answer is - yes.  A hetero male can easily drive one of these things
thankyouverymuch.

Mine is the Limited - fully loaded with every factory option *except* the
automatic transmission.  I got mine with the standard 5-speed manual
gearbox.  I paid $21,680 exactly - because I ordered it and waited.  There
are folks that have bought them off the lot and paid $10,000 over list.

He might have a base model there - in that case, ~$16,500 is the list price.

This one of those vehicles that people either love or hate - I still get
accosted at the grocery store with peoples opinions on the car.  People have
tried to steal it twice - once right out from my own driveway.  Trying to
steal it is pointless anyway - it has the Mercedes electronic key and is
unstartable with them (yes even hotwiring).  Stupid thieves.

There is also a *metric buttload* of aftermarket options available.  If
you're interested I'll send the links around to the custom websites.
They're kinda like Harleys in this way - each one is a blank canvas waiting
to be made unique.
