I thought that PoPToP fixed those problems with the windows client?
Something about making the windows client use the protocol correctly. That's
what I read ( maybe I read it wrong. I was in a hurry ).

[OT] -- Well, I do mention a sun computer. : )
I'm getting pretty sick of all the Linux bashing around here. It's my
damn choice and you can all just shove it. I am planning on trying out
OpenBSD on a SS2 and maybe on my home PC (x86). All this bad attitude is
starting to turn me off of it though.
[/OT]

Have you thought of a CD based distro? It may take longer but you can get a
larger kernel ( = mor options ) and you get more room with the ability to
install a none changeable config ( might be good or bad. If someone messes
with the machine you just reboot and you don't have the problems of a bad
floppy. You could take one of the floppy based distro's and change it enough
to work on a CD. It may take longer but it would give you a lot more
options. You could run samba on the CD and have a HD in the box just for
storage. No actual config or executables on the HD.
Come to think of it this just seems like it would be much to complicated to
configure if you want it up right away.

I would recomend a few distros that I have used and like very much.
Trustix -- The only problem with this is that it is made for a 586 or
higher. May be a problem. One thing I like is that this is pretty easy to
upgrade to the 2.4 kernel. Just need to compile 2 packages and compile the
2.4 kernel and your set. Has worked well for me so far.
Astaro -- Never used it but it looks like it has some good options. It has
IPSec VPN ablity but that doesn't play well with NAT and I remember you
saying you didn't want to spend that money. It is a secure distro though and
may be easier to modify than the others.

For our current production servers and firewall we use redhat custom
installs. It's kind of a pain to configure when you have to go through
everything and secure it the way it should be. I have just installed the new
7.1 distro and was quite impressed but havn't looked at the secruity closely
yet.

HTH,
sim

PS - I am not trying to start a OS war and will not participate in one. I
know what I am familiar with and what I like. If I had my way I would use a
Macintosh G4 w/ OSX and throw the rest out. Screw the command line.
: )
