That answer is popular fiction. Eckert visited John Atanasoff
at Iowa State, saw Atanasoff's ABC computer, and used concepts
from the ABC to design ENIAC. Eckert and Mauchly lost their
ENIAC patent in a court battle with Atanasoff because ENIAC
was derived from the ABC computer.
