If your serial port even _potentially_ has a "BREAK wire", it is a very
unusual serial port indeed.  On normal (RS-232C, at least in its
electrical respects) serial ports a break condition constitutes,
essentially, a start bit that lasts for at least ten bit times, not
anything on a separate conductor.  (Yes, this means that a break
condition is speed-dependent.  You can often produce a break condition
at one speed by setting the sender to a much slower speed and sending
suitable data.)
