Is that because they're on a dimmer?

I've replaced the CFLs in the kids' bedside lamps with incandescents -
the reason being that I'm afraid they'll knock the lamps over (which
happens), and I'd rather pay a little more for electricity than take
the risk of mercury poisoning.
