I missed that the board you pointed to had some on-board RAID controller
capabilities.

If you configure it to prevent a RAID array, it could/should work, but since
you want ZFS from the host, you probably need the drives to be presented as
individual drives/JBOD.

Also, what kind of processor load will ZFS put on the host?
