PDF added JavaScript with networking some time ago.

A lot of documents phone home now when you read them.

If you don't believe it, well... that's your choice.

GhostScript has nothing to do with it.

If you fully comply with the PDF spec, you include the ability for a
document to phone home when it is read.

True, but most people use their software so this is still a problem.

Yes, it is even a problem for those of us who avoid it, because what
others do affects us too.
