I also live on an island (Portsmouth) ... if I sit in the back bedroom,
I can sometimes see the taller ships heading out to see travelling the
deep water channel that's oddly close to the shore. Odd until you
realise it's a lot easier blowing up warships with canon if they're
forced close to the shore.

Given the traffic situation on the island, 'warwalking' made sense ...
at least once a month the snarl ups are so bad I can walk to the north
end in 1.5 hours and still beat the traffic.
