[geeks] AGP irritations

Theoretically, can plugging an AGP 2x card into a 4x slot cause problems? Is there any reasons why they would not be backward compatible?

AGP is a PITA! I received a Number Nine AGP 2x card (with an SGI 1600SW LCD) and i now cannot use it in the intended location because the mobo has an AGP 4x slot, of the particular variety that makes using a 2x card physically impossible. Is there some reason mobo manufactures would be doing this as opposed to using universal AGP slots?

Not to rehash the "x86 is crap" arguments from earlier but unpleasant surprises like this can be added to the list of x86 downfalls. Now i'm forced to the buy the overpriced SGI adapter box or another AGP card with the funky OpenLDI (Micro Centronics) connector.
