Not really.  In .uk the results of parliamentary elections are generally
known within eight hours of polls closing.  The results for the final few
constituencies come in after maybe 24 hours.  And that's with all the votes
for each constituency being counted at one central location.  It could be
speeded up by having several locations in each constituency counting their
local votes and those being collated to produce a grand total.
