[geeks] relocating to NYC - pointers?

I'm likely relocating to NYC at the end of Q2 this year.  Will be
looking for apartments and Unix SA/security work in Manhattan.  I'm
a good jaunt away right now (KY), but plan to visit in early March.
I'm of course keeping an eye on all the major job and apartment boards,
but never having relocated to a major metropolitan area like this before,
I imagine there might be some folks here that have a good feel for the
professional and personal difficulties such a move might present
of which I am probably unaware.

Any pointers and suggested resources are greatly appreciated!
