I used to do this with ed and vi... ...vim seemed to have problems using
something that wasn't a terminal, but doing it in vi was cool because I
could watch what was going on... ...or freak people out who were running
scripts making them think some ghost was using the computer... :)

I've got to imagine edlin could do the same thing, as I recall from the
ed(1) manpage that IBM just ported ed to DOS and called it edlin, with maybe
a change or two...
