Well, what I was planning on wasn't really an IR interface.  My Sony unit
has a serial command port on the back of it that speaks S-Link (Or
ControlA1 if you want to call it that).  The DE545 I have can establish a
bi-directional control/data channel with an MD player/CD jukebox/tape
deck.
