[geeks] DSL/PPPoE query - Am I insane?

I'm trying to debug my parent's issues with their DSL connection cia 
their local (independant) telco.  Their iMac G4 was set up with PPPoE, 
which I rarely see in DSL - is that common?  They actually have to click 
on a connect icon, which also bothers me.

Is PPPoE over DSL used at all?
