i use an IMAP server here internally, and use mutt with IMAP support. i don't
even have to use screen or anything, all i need to do is start up a new mutt
session and it "steals" the IMAP connection from my "permanent mutt session"
when i sit back down at my desk all i have to do is poke mutt and it will
reconnect to the imap server. it works great. my "perm mutt" has the same
uptime value as my machine.

does it need to be GUI? mutt works from telnet and ssh just fine, and on ANY
platform at all. period. :)
