we use rhel on hp servers and place the OS on the internal drives. arrays
carry the data (on the servers with large data storage). we use hp arrays
with the hp servers.
personally, i recommend netapp. they are based on freebsd and are easy to
work with--basically nfs mounts.
i have used emc with solaris and think that they are crap. they are (were
at the time) based on windows nt. they were convulted with the management
tools.
the greatest problem in this area is that emc field support sucks. if the
emc field support sucks in your area, they are the absolute worst choice for
an array vendor. if they are great in your area, they would be an
acceptable choice.
i still recommend and prefer netapp. they are the best in my opinion.
