" Well, CDE is a total dog as well, it's just not as glacial as JDS.
one of the reasons i still like openwin. that and i've managed to
bork cde several times running openwin perfmeter under it. and i
really, really hate that cde1 doesn't permanently reserve application
icon locations. i commonly have a flock of things running and i
depend on knowing where they are when i close them, but under cde1.x
it's fcfs every time they close. i believe cde2.x corrected this, but
afaik sun never upgraded.
" However, I now have glorious relief and JDS is working like it should.
" There have been several GNOME patches recently. I installed them all,
" but I didn't see any difference until I installed the last one:
" 122212-24 GNOME 2.6.0: GNOME Desktop Patch
" (which I see is already obsolete: haven't tried 25 yet).
<sigh> if only they'd release those patches for s8 gnome! i'm still
on 2.0.0.
" Boy, has anyone noticed that Sun Update Manager is slow as molasses?
" Just trying to look at Installed Updates takes several minutes and
" actually looking at an individual patch isn't any faster. Is this
" another bug?
i've never been able to get it to work here at all. does it use
secure http? i've been fetching patches another way [wget scripts]
and couldn't get them to work until i substituted the ip instead of
the domain name for sunsolve.
