Ed, if you're not using autofs, kill it off and disable the init script 
for autofs in /etc/rc2.d

automount is attaching to /home (one of it's three default places) and 
preventing it from being modified.

If you need to use autofs, comment out the /home entry in 
/etc/auto_master
