Just use ufsdump that comes standard with Solaris 9.  Try reading the
system Administrator Collection, here's for Solaris 8 but Solaris 9 should
be in docs.sun.com as well.  http://docs.sun.com/db/coll/47.11

btw, try amanda for another good backup utils.
