Hello guys!
I am writing here because you are my last hope. Nobody has been able to help
me. I have a Sparcstation 10 machine. It arrived to me with the following
note:
- it was reported to work before being powered off and transported to my
apartment;
- it was dropped during the transportation
I opened the machine and inspected its insides. Though the rear panel bore
traces of damage, it was only superficial. Inside, nothing seemed to be
damaged. I tried to power the machine on with a plugged keyboard, it beeped,
keyboard lights flashed, some time later the light on the front panel lit up
and then nothing happened. The monitor didn't light up, nothing.
I read Sun's troubleshooting guide and followed it. Before turning the power
on I held Stop+D buttons to see what would happen. As said in the Sun's
troubleshooting guide, Caps lock should be flashing when the machine was
doing hardware self-testing. And it did, so I thought the main board and
Mbus CPU module were more or less all right.
I thought the frame buffer device could be out of order so I brought it in
my office and plugged in a working Sparcstation 5. It worked.
Now I don't have the slightest idea of what might be the cause. Is the main
board dead? Maybe someone has some hints as to how to detect the reason for
this trouble? I am a newbie in Sun hardware, and I need your advice and help
badly.
Thank you guys in advance.
Valery
