I dont really understand your problem, but it sounds like you are
mixing HME cards with QFE cards, the interfaces on a QFE card are
called qfe0 to qfe3. Thus, try:
ifconfig qfe0 plumb
ifconfig qfe0 inet <something> netmask <something> up
