Partitioning really does depend of what you're using the box for and where
the applications like to live, assuming you can't or don't want to relocate
them.
I would say 1.2 GB for root and everything else for /export/home is way too
little for root and everything mounted under it and way too much for
/export/home. If you're going to have a relatively flat filesystem (i.e.
most things living in root instead of having their own partitions) then root
is where you'd want most of your space. Most applications and packages will
probably want to install in /usr or /opt.
Having /var on a separate partition is probably more important than
/export/home. Maybe something along the lines of 1 GB /var, 1 GB /swap
(depending on how much memory's in the box) then either split the rest
between root and /export/home or just leave the rest as the root partition.

The sunhelp.org website has a fine collection of links to the relevant FAQs.

I don't have a Solaris box available right now. Can't remember if the
hostname is picked up from /etc/hosts or something like /etc/nodename.
Have a read of this...

As always, google is your friend. :)
