Excellent! Thanks for the info!

Now for the next question: anyone have experience with Micron memory in
an Ultra 5? There is am eBay auction where a guy isselling off hundreds
of 256MB EDO ECC memory modules for $75.00 each. I tried four Compaq
32MB EDO ECC modules in my Ultra 5, and it booted just fine, so I assume
the ones in the auction will as well. They're pulls from Proliant
servers.

Any advice, yea or nay?

Thomas

P.S. - Peter, I just saw PM Blair's speech. I don't think we say it
often enough or loudly enough, but we in the USA really, really
appreciate the friendship between the UK and the USA. Thanks for your
help and support, and our prayers are as much with the UK military
forces as with our own.

Hi

I think the only reason why Sun did not offer the system with 512Mb was
the physical size of the DIMMS which will not fit into the U5. Other
than that they will work as the board is the same for U5 & U10 systems.

The same goes for the UPA graphics cards.

I have seen posts on Usenet saying the Ultra 5 will go 1 gig on RAM
(4x256MB DIMMs), but Sun's site says 512 megs (4x128MB DIMMs).

Has anyone actually *seen* an Ultra 5 with 256 meg DIMMs installed?

Thanks
