Slightly OT, but I'd join the snort users mailing list if you're going to run
it. Great group, and the
authors consistantly contribute. You can get an answer to anything,
seriously. Marty Roesch, Fyodor,
Roman Danyliw, the guys from Silicon defense.. and it's free. ;-) </soapbox>

Wish I knew a bit more about the Sol install.. I'm running
snort/mysql/acid/apache on windoze while I get my 'nix chops up to snuff..
I'm putting in a lot of time with Sol 7 & 8 on some machines here so there may
be hope for me yet. Who knows!

I'm working on installing snort on a Solaris 8 box.

I've Downloaded and installed gcc-3.0.2-sol8-sparc-local,
snort-1.8.1-sol8-sparc-local, libpcap-0.6.2-sol8-sparc-local,
tcpdump-3.6.2-sol8-sparc-local, and openssl-0.9.6-sol8-sparc-local from
www.sunfreeware.com

Now when I run snort, I get

bash-2.03$ /usr/local/bin/snort
ld.so.1: /usr/local/bin/snort: fatal: libssl.so.0.9.6: open failed: No such
file
  or directory
Killed

su doesn't help any either...

bash-2.03$ su
Password:
# /usr/local/bin/snort
ld.so.1: /usr/local/bin/snort: fatal: libssl.so.0.9.6: open failed: No such
file
  or directory
Killed

the file does exist on the machine...

# find / -name libssl.so.0.9.6 -print
/usr/local/ssl/lib/libssl.so.0.9.6

What do I need to do to let the machine know?

Thanks.
