ON THE CONTRARY!!!!
At least on an Ultra2 this works well AND YOU CAN USE THE MONITOR AND
KEYBOARD while having the input/output-device in OBP set to ttya.
The only difference is that you do not get the startup messages
on the monitor and the monitor is blank until the machine is ready
for logins. (And off course, the Stop-A does not work on the keyboard
anymore.)
