You can increase the swap space without changing the swap partition.

The following general steps are involved in creating a swap file:

1. Creating a swap file using the mkfile command.
    mkfile size[k|b|m] filename
2. Activating the swap file with the swap command.
    swap -a filename
3. Adding an entry for the swap file in the /etc/vfstab file
   so that it's activated automatically when the system is booted.
