I'd also be inclined to check cables and termination on the bus the drive is
attached to.
Also (personal opionion only) I wouldn't do backups using a DAT or other
helican scan drive. DLT technology is generally more reliable though
unfortunately more expensive.

Hello all.
I am using sun enterprise e450 and since we started the daily backup last
couple of months,
The DDS3 tape drive keeps hanging every now and then. Only a reboot would
detect the tape
drive again for to ject it out.
Of course this is most undesirable once the system is going live. This is
the 3rd tape drive
being replaced by the vendor.
Anybody got similar problem?
