I don't know if this applies to the installed for Solaris but have you
created a link from /usr/local/jre to the path the JVM in installed in? I've
been told that the installer for 8.1.5 is quite buggy compared to the 8.1.6
one. The following are the instructions I got from a mate for installing on
a linux machine... apparently the ridiculous permissions are necessary for
8.1.5 as well.)
Will.

------------------------------------
The Java environment you want is this:
jre_1.1.6-v5-glibc-x86.tar.gz
Use only this version. You should be able to download it from blackdown.org
but I'll be buggered if I can find it on there nowadays. If you can't
locate it I can send you a copy. OK, so put the file into /usr/local, then
do this:
tar xvzf jre_1.1.6-v5-glibc-x86.tar.gz
chown -R root.root jre116_v5
chmod -R 777 jre116_v5
ln -s jre116_v5 jre
Apart from that, I think all you need to do is create users for Oracle8i
and the DBA and SYSOPER although I think you can leave all that to the
installer prog. It would be wise to create an oracle8i user and group
first though I reckon.
Then just run the runInstaller.sh script.

Hi,
I am installing Oracle 8i (8.1.5) Database in my Sun Sparc E250. After
setting all the environment variables and other pre-installation
things, when i try to start the runinstaller script, i am getting an
error like this.
Initializing Java virtual Machine from
../stage/components/oracle/swd/jre/1.1.7/1/DataFiles/Expanded/solaris/b
in/jre. please wait........
Error in CreateOUIProcess( ); -1
:No such file or directory
Any information in this regard would be deeply depreciated.
