I just got assigned to write a NIS front-end to an LDAP database.  Not very
exciting, until you are told that it must speak differently to Suns, HPs, and
IBMs so that the password aging, history, etc, are all in the correct format for
the requesting client.

That makes it a LOT more fun.  I've never done any NIS programming, so I don't
even know if it's possible without storing a hash of what machine is what type.
