[Sunhelp] help to stop inetd !!

/etc/init.d/xinetd should be a script that runs xinetd, not a copy of
xinetd itself, although that *might* work.  You should get rid of any
links to inetd in the /etc/rc*.d directories and replace them with like
numbered links to xinetd instead.  Then kill inetd manually or reboot the
box and you should come back up okay.
