Err, no it isn't - it's 'mksysb'.

I know it is *possible* to boot from tape, but I haven't met anyone who
actually does
it with Solaris 2.x, 7, 8, ....

As far as I know, what you need to do is use 'ufsdump' to dump each file system
in sequence
to tape, (no-rewind device).

When you need to recover you then:
o Boot from your Solaris CD.
o Remake the partitions on your disks, and build filesystems on them.
o Restore the ufsdumps to the disk.
o Use installboot to install a boot block on your root disk.
o Reboot with your newly restored system.

Compare this (simple but lengthy) process with the equivalent in AIX:
o Boot the box, (AIX boxes take a very long time to boot in my experience)
o From the boot prompt select the maintenance option to restore the
 mksysb image.
o Reboot your newly restored system.

Maybe we can get something better than ufsdump/ufsrestore in Solaris 9, (or is
it in Sol-8?)
