1.2.2 I'm not running Win 2000; so I didn't see any advantage to
trying 1.3.

Yep. A 7 port Inland. And the speakers work for extended periods if
I don't try any continuous output. (I.e., With just the Windows sound
effects on.) Also, it is kind of odd that when it stops, I lose all
audio output, even through the ES1869. On the surface, it would appear
to be some sort of driver problem; but it doesn't happen when I attach
the speakers to a friend's Hitachi notebook. (Which has exactly the
same set of OS updates; and pretty much the same set of additional
software active.)

I'm also occasionally seeing Windows get into a state where it doesn't
refresh the screen. Sometimes Ctrl-Alt-Del will bring up the dialog
and show that RealPlay is not responding. When that happens, clicking
End Task seems to fix it. (Note that this happens whether or not I'm
running the Real player - it looks like it installs something that is
started at login time and runs in the background with an icon in the
system tray.) Other times the C-A-D dialog doesn't show anything out
of the ordinary; and sometimes it doesn't come up at all and I have to
Reset via the SunPCi menu.

Ick. Did you compile it yourself or install the pre-built binary?
