That's the conclusion I am coming to as well.  I ran into the same issue on 
an Ultrabook IIi.  There is an OBP update available on the GD ftp site for 
the SparcLE.  Doubt it is any more complete.  Probably just bug fixes.

I'll give that a try with the non-ECC memory install and see what happens. 
If the ATP Electronics ECC memory is cheap enough, I'll go that way for the 
future.

By the way, I found out that the SparcLE hard drive caddy connector is 
similar to (or the same as) the one used on Toshiba Satellite P20 and P25 
laptops.
