Here's the data. First, where I found it:

From: /proc/openprom/iommu at 0,10000000/sbus at 0,10001000/p9000 at 0,100000$

$ ls
address character-set check-resolution cmsize device_type external
external-intr height intr name reg width

Contents of selected files:

address: fed00000
check-resolution:	00000001
cmsize: 00000100
external: 00000000
external-intr: 00000001
height: 000001e0
width: 00000280
intr: 00000032.00000000
name: 'p9000'

The file "reg" has a list of values in it:
00000000.00100000.00001000.00000000.00180000.00002000.00000004.01380000.00000008.00000004.013c0000.00000004.00000000.00200000.00200000.00000004.013e0000.00000400.00000004.01900000.00000001

I know virtually nothing about display hardware. I hope this is sufficient
information for troehr at nj-onramp.com to do his voodoo.

I've never been a Linux kernel hacker, but I'm a competent C programmer.
Would it make sense for me to grab a recent 2.4.x kernel and go hunting for
the framebuffer code? Or would I just plain be begging for trouble?
