For the record, I too am using Debian, although I'm switching between a 2.2.18 
kernel ("last known stable" point for my testing) and a 2.4.18 kernel where 
I'm hacking away at the framebuffer code ("last known 
oh-my-god-where-did-my-system-go point for my testing).

I had a lot of fun getting to that point.  I had no removable media drives, so 
I had to make one of my Lintel boxes act as a bootp server to the Sparcbook.  
That was fun.  Never done that before.  Worked like a charm.  Booted into 
Debian install and installed the entire OS over the 'net.  Sure, at 256kbit 
it took the better part of a day, but the geek factor made it all 
worthwhile...
