Ken,
There is no ID string from the hard drive itself. I purchased the hard drive
from www.ncetech.com whose name was listed from this user group as a
location to purchased IDE-SCSI drive.
I called MCE Technologies and they informed me to try ID 0, because that's
what they use. Setting the adapter to SCSI ID 0 did not help, same problem
of not detecting drive info.

Just to be thorough, you have double checked the connection between the
drive and the IDE <>SCSI adapter card, right?
The adapter would report the proper SCSI ID (I think), but the drive ID
string would come from the drive itself.
Oh wait, the SCSI ID is set on the HD sled, not the adapter, so double check
the sled to HD Adapter connection as well as the HD Adapter to HD
connection.
HTH,
Ken
