Sometimes you can get a good deal on the Sun workshop on e-bay or
comp.sys.sun.* (that's how I got my fortran compiler)

gcc on Solaris isn't so bad -- you just have to set "CC" to point to "/
opt/yadda-yadda/gcc" and you're good to go.
