" Nope, running Windows seriously stopped with Windows for Workgroups :)

when i was shopping for an isp in the late '90s, many of them said
they were running nt, 4 iirc. with a little prodding, all but one
admitted they couldn't get their servers to run a week without
crashing. the one standout scheduled semi-weekly pre-emptive reboots.

the one i went with ran unix, i never learned on what, but offered a
dialup static ip for $20/mo. later, they offered a dsl+voip pkg -
still with static ip - for a similar price. i spent money wiring my
townhouse for 100bt, put the modem + voip ata in at the demarc, and
saved it all back in 6mo. [hint: use the duplex wall plates, with
enough clearance to get your hand into the wall when fishing wires]

when they folded a couple of years ago, they let me keep the cisco
soho modem i'd been using, and with mrbill's pointers to docs i
finally learned enough to reprogram it last year, for which mrbill
gets a big thank you.

they were good folks to deal with. i miss them.
