i was also a 3b2 admin.  cow-orkers in another group had 5620s, which
all the rest of us looked upon with envy...  and then i was assigned
to a new project just after the 630 came out - and as our test setups
were quite complicated i managed to convince my boss we needed them,
running layers, as control terminals.  i also had a 630 acting as
simultaneous console for three 3b2s - it could have 3 serial ports.

when the 730 came out, i discovered our 630s could be upgraded with a
prom change, so one evening i borrowed the roms from the one 730 that
had appeared and spent a little quality time with a burner and eproms
from the stockroom...  our test setup also inadvertently uncovered a
minor bug in the 730 terminal code.

there's a paper describing the setup in the bell labs tech library - if
it still exists - with my name on it.  i got the shock of my life on
my next project when i met someone who'd actually read and been
influenced by it!

does your 5620 have 256k?  i vaguely recall the upgrade from 64k was
pretty simple - just jumper changes and drams or something.

nope, all the mice were red, idiosyncracy of the supplier i suppose.
as they were hemispherical and sported black switches for the buttons
they were often nicknamed ladybugs; i saw at least one decorated with
black spots.

the 600/700 series had normal mice, as they'd become common by then
and easier to source.
