you don't mention it, but this phenom is well known among apple
machines, and the trick is the correct geometry/density.  generally at
any size there are two chip densities.  so if the mem controller can
handle both 16 x 16M and 8 x 32M sticks, then it can also handle 16 x
32M...  but they'll never advertise it for fear that some moron luser
will try some other 512M geometry and sue when they don't work.
