Repurposing a Linksys router is a good way to go, another that I have used is
a gaming adapter, marketed as device to provide connectivity for game
consoles. They tend to be $30-50, IIRC.
Powerline adapters may be an option as well - the can provide great bandwidth
and lack some of the security issues - if you are OK with possible EMI
issues.
