Nice summary, Scott.

Since these machines were released home PCs have come to generated a
lot more heat than they used to. As a result people have started
paying a lot of attention to cooling machines without generating so
much noise. If you're inclined to poke around sites like quietpc.com
you can probably reduce the noise from any of these workstations quite
a bit.

There are numerous threads about doing this to SGI boxes in the forums
at nekochan.net, including specific part numbers for appropriate fans,
hard drives, etc.
